Reverend Henry Duncan, known as the father of the Savings Bank, established the First Savings Bank in one of the churches in Scotland. In England six years before World War I, the government launched the 'National Savings Agency' to inspire small savings. After World War II, the National Savings Agency made a significant contribution to England's national economy. In order to stimulate people's savings and control inflation caused by World War II, in the subcontinent, the first 'National Savings Agency' started functioning under the Ministry of Finance in India. The headquarters of the company was located in Simla, India. Then, after the division of the country in the sixth year, the national savings program was subsequently transferred under the Ministry of Finance. After the liberation of Bangladesh through bloody struggle, the National Directorate of Savings was established in the 42nd year with the initiative of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Then, after 42 years, the National Directorate of Savings was promoted to the Department on February 27. The Department of National Savings is a department under the Department of Internal Resources of the Ministry of Finance. The District Savings Office / Bureau, Cox's Bazar has been conducting the activities of the Department of National Savings as its district office.
